Comments:

This was a bad fligh indeed. There were 99 knot shearing westerly head winds at FL350 and FL370 coming out of Tokyo. The overspeed penalty was a result of erractic rapid wind changes at cruising altitude causing rapid fluctuations in airspeed (I don’t have wind smoothing software). There was nothing I could do to smooth out the flight as the plane pitched, rolled and changed airspeed during the meal service because of the strong erractic head wind changes – I haven’t found a way to cancel the services once started either, I don’t think you can do that. The fact is I should have received a bonus for getting through this flight instead of a penalty. This is a limitation of the software program I believe because it doesn’t take into accout extreme wind conditions in assessing penalties. In real life I’m sure the passengers would have been grateful just to have landed safely as it was a very rough flight with visability less than 3 miles on final ILS approach with driving rain, wind and fog. I’m finding that with extreame real world weather conditions there is a lot lacking in this software in making accurate flight assestments. I’m not impressed with these limitations as I feel it is not realistic. On this flight the passengers would have probably kissed the ground just to have landed safely and in one piece and praised the pilot for doing a good job and so would the company.

Comments:

Comments:

This was a very difficult appraoch with a rapid decent to landing in extreamly bad weather with near zero visabilty above 1000 feet. This one was tough but I managed to make it even though I had to do a rapid decent to a short runway wich really pissed off my co-pilot.

The late arrival time was due to an unexpected Departure Procedure at KGTF - Great Falls Intl. ATC had me fly out and climb to FL300 before turning onto the course. I wound up canceling IFR and then requesting IFR to the same destination. This whole process ate up about 20 minutes of my planed flight time. I put the peddle to the metal at FL370 but I couldn’t make up the lost time even though I was going Mach 0.78 (ground speed ~460 knots). Had this unanticipated DP event not occured I would have arrived on time. Oh well, such is life!
